EE 326: All of the pages (except the diode page) listed under the
EE 326 heading require Netscape Communicator with Cosmo Player.
Several 3-D models have been created. To view them your Web browser must
contain a VRML viewer 'plug-in' (this plug-in is usually automatically
included with your Web browser). The VRML viewer of choice has
evolved during these projects. The newest versions of Netscape Communicator
(with Navigator 4.0 or higher) and of Internet Explorer use the new version
of "Virtual Reality Modeling Language": VRML 2.0. Communicator's VRML viewer
is called Cosmo Player.
Older Web browsers (for example, Navigator 3.x) used VRML 1.0 and can only
view VRML 1.0 files. Some of our work MUST be viewed by Navigator 3.x with
the Live3D viewer to run the Java applet with full functionality. These are:
the DIODE models and the engineering building model with the moving wall.
Any VRML 2.0 viewer can "view" any of the models (but, for the Live3D/Java
pages mentioned above, without the associated Java applet's simulation and
animation functionality). The rest of our work uses VRML 2.0. Many of our
pages include a Java applet -- these require Communicator with Cosmo Player.
Instructions for Using COSMO PLAYER:
For help on using Netscape's VRML viewer (called Cosmo Player, and included
with the normal Communicator download), click the right mouse button within
the 3-D scene and you will get a menu that includes a HELP entry.
Instructions for Using LIVE3D:
With the Live3D VRML viewer, you can zoom in and out and walk around or
through a model. You do this by holding down the left mouse button and
moving it the cursor within the VRML window. Holding down the right button
twirls and spins the object. You just have to practice and try it out.
Just clicking the right mouse button within the VRML window gives you a
menu that will also help and show you some of the available functions.
