SIUE Solar Car in the "Celebrating Abilities" 5K Race, downtown Edwardsville

Unoficially, the North American Solar Challange (NASC) will host the next race in Summer 2008. The SIUE Solar Team is working on getting ready for this event. There are a lot of improvements to be made on the solar car to make it more competitive, especially reducing its total weight. We have purchased lithium-polymer batteries from Power Stream to replace the existing lead-acid ones. This will tremendously increase the electric storage capacity and take of a lot of pounds from the weight.

Meanwhile we want to keep the car in operational condition without much of the downtime. This way we can still participate in various events in the county. We need to gain some publicity to get the local community involved again in our effort. We have had a lot of help from local industry in terms of expertise, material, and financial donations. We hope to keep it up this year again.
